Friday Roundup: A Belated Birthday Bash in Buhl

When the eHarmony of freight matching comes calling: Four or five or six months back, on the advice of a close friend, I wrote down three personal requirements regarding any new career direction. The idea was that any position I applied for needed to fulfill no less than two of those three requirements. A few months and a few freelance projects later, I'm happy to say a position has arisen that's ticked the checkmark box in each of my three requirements. As of Wednesday, I'll be the Content & Editorial Director for Truckstop.com, a leader in data-driven freight-matching that's got the two-lane world on a string. I'm excited. I'm anxious. I'm ready for the challenge.

The angel of folk: So incredibly excited for Sufjan Stevens' "Carrie & Lowell" album, the pseudo- Christian, states-centric, dad/nap-rockstar's return to folk glory. Don't know who he is? Allow me to convert you.

My Old Kentucky Home: As part of my first foray into the Truckstop.com world, I'll be attending the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky. It may not be a city on my wish list, but I'm eager to experience the business, barbecue, and bourbon.

Beautiful Buhl America: When you get a free 36 hours, do the following: drive to Hagerman, Idaho and see the giant white sturgeon at the National Fish Hatchery; soak in a private pool at Miracle Hot Springs (pictured above); sing terrible karaoke at TJ's Lounge in Buhl, Idaho; and explore the many trails and mini-caves around Balanced Rock County Park.
